PPS SPED Director is Out

PPS new SPED Director (Robert Ford) has been out on leave for about three weeks and now I hear he’s not returning to the Director position.  Ford was only in the position for about five months.    Parents I’ve talked with were happy with Ford.

I know there was criticism about PPS hiring him because many felt he wasn’t qualified for the position.  That may or may not be true.    People have said that he got the position because he’s Black.

Carole Smith, Zeke Smith, Michelle Riddell, Greg Wolleck, Fred Locke and many other administrators aren’t qualified for their positions either.  But nobody has said they got their positions because they’re white.

Any bets (less than $10,000) on who will lead SPED until Ford is replaced?

$10 on Jennifer Jackson who was previously interim director, currently/again, assistant director and had applied to be director when Ford was chosen. If I made what he was making, I could work less than half the year, too.

All I can say is wow, I’m really not all that surprised.

I am so bummed, I really liked him.

I’ve heard that he’s been out on medical leave due to back troubles. Is it possible that he’s stepping down because he feels he can’t do justice to the position until the back troubles get resolved? I’m mean, it could be that the forces at play here are tainted with fickleness and incompetence, but it also seems possible that it’s good people dealing with tough circumstances. Just saying.

My prediction is Off. Chris Humphries currenly on stress leave from the police bureau. He would fit right in to the caustic indifference PPS has toward special education.

I think you better check your sources. Reports are he was back at work this week.

Robert Smith,

I’ve heard that Robert Ford is back too. I’d heard from two different sources that he was out permanently as SPED Director. It looks like they were wrong.

The Sped Director actually resigned but the CAO would not accept his resignation so she convinced him to take a medical leave which ended this past Tuesday. Thirty-five days of paid vacation after starting the job July 1. Not bad!

Equity, can you explain how the CAO was able to refuse Ford’s resignation? Is it that he was looking for some kind of separation agreement and he didn’t get it?
