Shutting Students Up to Talk About Engaging Them

Steve, Ed, David and especially Fred Locke…your three minutes are up!

Why does the board limit student testimony but allow administrators to talk endlessly about their ideas?

The principals aren’t the ones that are going to be attending the schools.  They go on and on about building schools that will inspire and engage while students are expected to sit in quiet disagreement.

Last night’s students provided the most compelling testimony on the high school redesign.  Let’s hear from more of them!

Marshall and Benson students are invited and encouraged to comment on the posts on this site and to also submit statements or articles to be posted.

Amen Carrie,

Sure they have to tow the line and cover their butts. Wouldn’t it be better to stand for the kids and the community? Heck it would make them look better.

I am truly disappointed from what I heard from the principals, whose best interest in my opinion should always be the STUDENTS. These principals have all turned their backs on the kids in their schools, as well as our communities. Seems to me they only care about their own agendas. WAY TO GO BOYS!

Please excuse my ignorance, but who are Steve and Ed? Does “David” refer to David Hamilton or David Wynde?

Sorry Zarwen and thanks for the reminder that some people don’t know them.

Steve Olczak is the Benson principal that seemed to send his students down the river last night.

Ed Bear is the principal at Biz Tech, David Hamilton at Pauling and Fred Locke at Renaissance Arts (all on the Marshall campus)

Did all four of them testify last night?

If you can call it that.

Well, if Marshall is only gonna have ONE focus option program, which one of these guys thinks he’s gonna be the boss of it?

Burger King will be the boss of the new focus option program? Huh?

I worked with Ed Bear last year. He’s probably the best principal I’ve ever had. Unfortunately, I missed Tuesday’s meeting at Madison… what happened there?

Also– when is the meeting at Marshall? I’ve heard two different options, May 20th (I can make that one) or May 29th (when I’ll be out of state). Can you please clear up the date for me?

Yes, I am afraid that the Burger King link leaves me still confused.

I suspect Fred Locke thinks he would be principal.
