There is no middle school between George (St. Johns) and Beaumont (NE Fremont). They are almost nine miles apart. This area includes all of the Jefferson and Madison clusters, and all of historically black Portland.

All elementary and middle schools in Jefferson and Madison clusters either closed or converted to K-8, except for Chief Joseph which is still K-5 and is the only feeder for the 6-8 portion of Ockley Green.

Jefferson is listed as 6-12 because the Young Womens' Academy at the former Tubman middle school site.

George MS is in the St. Johns area. You might be interested to know that Rosa Parks students are bussed there now because the nearby middle school, Portsmouth, is now a K-8. I believe that Rosa Parks was originally planned to be a K-8 too, but then more children showed up than they built for! Sounds familiar, huh?

It looks like it. George is 6-8 but I don't think it's near Whitaker. Also, Jefferson is listed as 6-12. The district used that to their advantage in reporting test results. They added middle school achievement levels to the high school results increasing the percentages identified as being at benchmark.

Where are the middle-grade students of that area now? Have all the neighboring schools gone K-8?
